BookWise features
BookWise is bookkeeping and financial reporting software for private practice clinicians. Everything below is included in the one plan, $60 per month, with a 60-day free trial and no credit card required. Every feature can be tried in the public demo with sample practice data.
Financial reporting
Reports are built from your coded transactions and stay current all year. Cash basis, by bank date.
Financial reporting
Profit and loss, balance sheet, and tax summary, generated from your books at any time, for any month, quarter, or year.
Profit and loss statement (income statement)
Every month side by side, with income and expense categories, totals, and net income. Same-year and cross-year comparison.
Balance sheet
Assets, liabilities, and owner's equity as of any date, with bank balances from your connected accounts, opening balances, fixed assets, and prior draws and investments.
General ledger
A complete categorized ledger of every transaction, coded to your chart of accounts on a cash basis. Drill from any report number to the transactions behind it. Exportable to Excel for your accountant.
Reporting and analytics
Twelve-month trend sparklines on every category, an income and expense summary with your usual range, and category totals on demand.
Data import and export
Transactions import automatically from your bank through Plaid. Reports export to Excel and CSV; the tax summary exports to TurboTax (TXF).

Expense tracking and receipts
Bank and credit card transactions sync through Plaid. You choose exactly which accounts to share.
Bank connection and transaction sync
Connect business checking, savings, and credit card accounts through Plaid. Sync on demand or by date range. Account balances shown per institution.
Expense tracking
Every expense is recorded, categorized, and totaled by category, month, and vendor. Uncoded transactions are listed until they are coded, so nothing is missed.
Transaction categorization
Categories are suggested from your own history. Code one transaction or a whole batch of similar transactions in one click. Transfers between your accounts are detected and paired.
Transaction splitting
Split a single transaction across categories, for example a payroll withdrawal into wages and employer payroll taxes.
Receipt management
Forward receipt emails to your private BookWise address, or drag in emails, PDFs, and photos. Each receipt attaches to the matching expense and is grouped by vendor, so every deduction can defend itself in an audit. Missing receipts are counted per vendor.
Income tracking
Income coded by category and income type (such as insurance or self-pay), with payment processing fees recorded automatically from Stripe.

Tax reporting
Your year-end summary follows your actual tax form, line by line.
Tax reporting (Schedule C and Form 1120-S)
A year-end tax summary organized to the lines of Schedule C for sole proprietors and single-member LLCs, or Form 1120-S for S corporations, with line numbers that follow the current form revision.
Quarterly estimated tax planner
Estimated federal tax by quarter from your year-to-date books, so there are no surprises in April.
Fixed asset and depreciation tracking
Equipment cost and accumulated depreciation by year, with book value shown on the balance sheet.
Owner equity tracking
Owner's draws and investments, opening balances, and prior-year equity so the balance sheet balances from day one.
Period lock
Lock the books through a filed date so nothing in a closed period can change by accident. Reports are never blocked; unlock any time you genuinely need to restate.
Tax exports
One-click exports for TurboTax (TXF) and Excel, plus an audit-ready export built for your accountant's workflow.

Accountant access and collaboration
Accountant access (multi-user permissions)
Invite your accountant or bookkeeper with read-only or full edit access. They work directly in your books under a Business Associate Agreement.
Audit trail
An activity log records sign-ins, bank connections, coding changes, fee entries, and settings changes.
Ask BookWise
A built-in assistant that reads your books and answers questions in plain language, any hour.
Practice-specific chart of accounts
Categories and examples set up for your profession: therapists and counselors, psychiatric practices, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists. Sole proprietors, LLCs, and S corporations.

Security and compliance
HIPAA compliance
HIPAA compliant by design. A Business Associate Agreement is available to every practice and to invited accountants.
Encryption
Transaction data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Bank credentials are never stored; access goes through Plaid.
Your data stays yours
Export everything at any time. Your data stays available even if you cancel.
